Starting the day five strokes behind first-day leader Terese Romeo of Tampa Freedom, Yang plugged away with four birdies on the first 14 holes at Deer Island Country Club in Tavares, carding a two-day score of 144. She then beat Selin Timur of Lake Mary, who shot 72 and 72 for a 144 total, in a one-hole playoff to win the championship. Romeo finished with a second-day score of 74 to total 145.
Yang becomes the first girl's state champion from Polk County since Lori Wilkes of Bartow High School in 1984.
