BRENDON TODD won his first PGA Tour title yesterday at the HP Byron Nelson Championship after fending off a leaderboard packed with star names.

2003 Masters champion Mike Weir put up a spirited fight but the Canadian could not better Todd who won the tournament by two shots.

Charles Howell III, Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Graham DeLaet and Louis Oosthuizen all contended on Sunday but were unable to prevent Todd from clinching his maiden win.

“It was a dream week for me on the golf course,” Todd said.

“Felt like I absolutely scored my pants off. It was just a short game display. I have a great short game, and even I’ll say it was special this week.”

The 28-year-old had to get creative on the 12th when his drive landed 12 inches from a tree, forcing the American to play the shot left handed.

"My brother-in-law is left-handed," Todd said when asked how he came up with the shot. "I putted with his left-handed putter before and I'm pretty good at it. So I tried to use that stroke."
